API Key Insights, Rate Limits, and more
We’re kicking off 2025 with some major upgrades to API keys!
Our API Key feature allows your users and/or organizations to generate API Keys (this is also sometimes known as M2M auth or creating service accounts). This is commonly used for things like:
- Creating a public facing API (see this AI image generation example)
- Non-web app authentication, like making requests from a CLI or VSCode
- Internal requests between different machines
We have a video here which goes into even more detail.
Today, we're really excited about these improvements which will give you deeper insights into how your keys are being used, protections against people blowing up your API, and proactive reminders so your customers won't let an API Key expire without advanced warning.
Usage Charts
It’s now easier than ever to gain an understanding of how actively your API keys are being used! Get a breakdown per user, per organization, or per individual key.
Enforce your own Rate Limits
Whether it’s for preventing abuse or just limiting some of your more… excitable customers, you can now add your own rate limits to both personal and organization API keys
Notify users for expiring API Keys
All good things eventually come to an end, like that API Key your customer generated a year ago and forgot about. You can now set up proactive notifications to alert your customers that their keys are about to expire.
